About Kathy Jo
Kathy Jo Cook earned her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 1995 after completing a B.A. in Humanities at the University of Houston in 1992. Her time in law school included work on trial advocacy and coaching roles that would shape the early years of her career. Those student experiences translated into steady entry-level positions in the Massachusetts legal community.
Her career began in public and private clerkships. In 1993 she served as a law clerk in the Office of the Lawyer General, Trial Division, in Boston, and the following year she clerked at Lubin & Meyer, P.C. She moved into litigation practice in 1995 as a litigation lawyer at Keches & Mallen, P.C. in Taunton, gaining courtroom exposure and case-handling experience in state and federal settings.
By 2008 she was a partner at Wagner Cook Freiberger & Washienko, LLC in Boston. That role expanded her responsibilities to include supervising other lawyers and managing complex litigation files. In 2019 she took on an of-counsel role at Neumann Law Group. More recently she has managed KJC Law Office, LLC, where she maintains an active docket and continues to appear in court.
She is admitted to practice before the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Those admissions reflect a practice that has moved between trial courts and appellate matters, and they enable representation in a range of civil disputes.
Cook has maintained steady involvement in local legal organizations. She has been a member of the Boston Bar Association since 2007 and of the Massachusetts Bar Association since 2004. Her memberships extend to the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Lawyers and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, each reflecting long-standing participation in the trial bar community.
Teaching and coaching have been recurring elements of her professional life. She coached the National Trial Team at Suffolk University Law School from 1996 to 2000 and served as a guest instructor in trial advocacy at Suffolk from 1996 to 2004. She has also lectured at Southern New England School of Law and delivered a guest course on tort reform at Massachusetts Bay Community College.
She currently manages KJC Law Office, LLC, where her practice focuses on civil litigation and trial representation.
