About Kate
Kate Mesic earned a B.A. in English from the University of North Florida in 2004 and a J.D. from the University of Florida in 2007. She returned to Jacksonville after law school and began a steady career in public service and private practice. Her early academic involvement included a long-standing role on the University of North Florida Pre-Law Program Board of Advisors, a position she has held since 2003.
She started her legal career as an Assistant State Lawyer in the Office of the State Lawyer for the 5th Judicial Circuit in 2007. That role placed her inside the court system and introduced her to the rhythms of courtroom work and case preparation. In 2009 she moved into private practice as an associate at Joseph & Marees, P.A., where she built trial and client-management experience. Two years later she opened her own firm, founding The Law Offices of Kate Mesic, P.A. in 2011.
Over more than a decade she has combined courtroom experience from the public sector with the demands of running a small firm. Her professional affiliations reflect the balance of those responsibilities. She is a member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Northeast Chapter, and has been active in local bar and women’s professional groups, including the Jacksonville Bar Association, the Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association, and the Florida Association of Women Lawyers. Since 2016 she has held a board role with the Jacksonville Women Business Center at the Jacksonville Chamber, and she belongs to local women business owner organizations.
Colleagues describe her as someone who moves easily between client meetings, court appearances and administrative work. She handles matters across state courts in Florida and draws on years of experience in both prosecutorial and defense-oriented environments. She also invests time advising students interested in law, reflecting her ongoing involvement in pre-law education at the University of North Florida.
Running a solo practice has required attention to both legal detail and the practical side of serving clients. Her firm, founded in 2011, provides a base for litigation, client counseling and court work in the region. She remains an active member of several bar and civic groups and continues to participate in programs aimed at supporting women in business and law.
Her current practice handles criminal defense and other state-law matters throughout Florida.
