About Karn
Karn Thapar combines legal training, business education and experience in private practice, corporate service and the classroom. He holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law, an MBA from the University of Cambridge and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
He arrived at law after a broad academic path. His time at USC grounded him in business principles. The MBA at Cambridge added international management study. He completed legal training at NYU, where he earned his J.D.
Thapar’s early legal work included a stint as an associate at Morrison & Foerster LLP beginning in 2006. He began practicing under the Thapar Law name in 2009. In 2015 he took an executive role at Ernst & Young, moving into a corporate environment that stretched beyond traditional law firm practice. In 2017 he added an academic appointment, joining the faculty at Central Connecticut State University.
Those moves reflect a willingness to shift between practice settings. Time at a large national firm exposed him to complex transactional and litigation matters. The corporate executive role brought experience in business operations and client services. His academic work has kept him engaged with students and emerging legal topics.
Licensed to practice in both Oregon and California, Thapar holds certifications from Wealth Counsel and from Elder Counsel in estate planning and probate. Those credentials inform much of his client work. He advises on wills, trusts, probate administration and related planning issues for individuals and families.
Colleagues and students describe him as steady and pragmatic. He has navigated both firm and corporate hierarchies, and he has translated that experience into classroom teaching. His time in different professional settings gives him a perspective that combines legal analysis with business judgment.
Thapar Law, a Professional Corporation, serves as the base for his practice activities. He maintains active licenses in Oregon and California and applies his certifications to estate planning and probate matters. He currently practices estate planning and probate law at Thapar Law, a Professional Corporation.
