About Karlee K.
Karlee K. Stoppenhagen built her path to the law through a mix of textbook study and early practical work. She earned a B.S. in Business Management and Philosophy from Wagner College in 2007 and completed her J.D. at Mississippi College School of Law in 2014. Those years bridged classroom learning and courtroom observation, setting the tone for a career spent largely in family law and related practice settings.
While in law school Stoppenhagen worked in several clerk and intern roles that exposed her to different parts of the legal system. She was a law clerk at Dewhirst & Dolven, LLC in 2013 and previously served at Rocky Wilkins Law Office, PLLC in 2012. In 2012 she also spent time as a legal intern with the Colorado Springs City Lawyer, and earlier served as an intern at BL Speer & Associates in 2008. Her academic tenure concluded with a judicial externship for The Honorable Justice James W. Kitchens at the Mississippi Supreme Court in 2014, an experience that gave her direct insight into appellate decision-making.
After passing the bar in Colorado and joining the State Bar of Colorado in 2014, she began her professional practice as an associate attorney at Grant & Hoffman, P.C. That initial position in 2014 marked her transition from academic training to full-time practice. She expanded her involvement in the legal community through local bar associations, holding memberships in the Larimer County Bar beginning in 2014 and serving on the Board of Directors of the Weld County Bar from 2014 to 2016.
In 2017 she joined Modern Family Law as a managing lawyer, taking on increased responsibilities in case handling and office management. Her role grew over the years, and in 2021 she became managing partner. Under her leadership the firm navigated the practical demands of client work and day-to-day administration. Colleagues describe her as practical and organized; she approaches casework with an emphasis on clear communication and steady process.
Stoppenhagen has maintained an active law license in Colorado since 2014 and remains engaged with the county bar organizations that helped shape her early professional network. She combines courtroom and negotiation experience from her time on staff and in private practice. She currently practices at Modern Family Law and focuses her practice on family law matters.
