About Karen
Karen Munzer built a career that bridges science, health care and the law. She began in the laboratory and the clinic, then moved into courtrooms and conference rooms. The path through those fields informs how she approaches disputes today.
She earned a B.S. in biochemistry from Fairleigh Dickinson University before completing a nursing certification at the University of Miami in 1981. After several years connected to health-related work, she turned to law and earned a J.D. from Nova Southeastern University in 1986. That combination of science, patient care and legal training shaped her early professional choices.
Munzer entered private practice in 1986 as a lawyer and mediator. She spent 24 years running a private practice that handled a mix of litigation and alternative dispute resolution. Over time her work shifted more toward mediation, and she pursued formal credentials to reflect that change. She is a Certified Family Mediator, a Certified Civil Circuit Mediator and a Certified Foreclosure Mediator, each certification issued by the Florida Supreme Court.
Her admissions include the Florida bar, the Federal Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. That range of jurisdictions has allowed her to handle matters that touch on state and federal law, and to appear in a range of venues when a case requires it. She has combined courtroom practice and mediated settlement work throughout her career rather than following a single track.
Colleagues describe her as precise in preparation and direct in the conference room. She tends to bring a methodical, case-by-case approach to settlement discussions. Her background in nursing and biochemistry sometimes proves useful in matters where medical or scientific facts are part of the dispute. In family cases, she balances procedural familiarity with an attention to the personal dynamics that commonly shape outcomes.
Over the years she has balanced litigation skills and alternative dispute resolution credentials in private practice. That balance has guided the kinds of matters she accepts and the roles she plays—often as neutral in mediations and sometimes as counsel when a negotiated resolution is still possible. She continues to practice law and to serve as a mediator in Florida. She concentrates her practice on mediation in family, civil and foreclosure matters.
