About K Matthew

K Matthew Long built his path to the law from a background in history and philosophy. He earned a B.A. from Emory & Henry College in 1999 and completed his J.D. at the University of Richmond School of Law in 2007. Those years shaped a methodical approach to legal reasoning and an interest in trial practice.

He began his legal career as a law clerk at the Porter County Circuit Court in 2007. The clerkship gave him early exposure to courtroom procedure and the mechanics of trial dockets. In 2008 he joined Ayers & Stolte, P.C. as an associate. That period provided experience handling litigation and client representation across a range of civil matters.

In 2015 he became a partner at Bowen Ten Long & Bal, PC. His role there expanded to include case strategy, client counseling, and courtroom work. He works out of the firm’s main office and also serves clients from the Hanover office. Colleagues describe him as steady in court and thorough in preparation.

Long’s professional involvement runs beyond his firm responsibilities. He has been active in the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association’s Tort Law Committee since 2012, participating in committee meetings and educational programs. From 2017 through 2021 he served as an arbitrator for the Virginia State Bar Fee Resolution Program, handling disputed fee matters between attorneys and clients. Between 2019 and 2021 he sat on the Virginia State Bar Third District Disciplinary Committee, taking part in the review of disciplinary complaints and related proceedings.

His extracurricular commitments include a stretch of leadership in professional networking; he served as president of the BNI- Virginia Marketing Alliance from 2009 to 2016. He also held membership in the Lewis Powell American Inn of Court from 2012 to 2015, an affiliation that emphasized courtroom skills and professional ethics.

Those roles reflect a practice shaped by litigation and dispute resolution. He has a background that includes both bench experience from his clerkship and hands-on trial work from his years at private firms. He has handled fee arbitration matters and participated in disciplinary review, bringing familiarity with the administrative side of the bar as well as courtroom advocacy.

He is admitted to practice in Virginia and continues to work at Bowen Ten Long & Bal, PC. His current practice centers on civil litigation, including tort and trial matters.
