About Joy Susan
Joy Susan Goudie earned graduate degrees that span science and law. She holds a Master of Science in Chemistry from Long Island University’s Brooklyn campus and a Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. Those credentials underpin a career that began in laboratory roles and then moved into intellectual property work.
Her early work was in clinical and research settings. She served as a medical technologist at Peekskill Hospital and then worked as a research scientist at the State University of New York at Buffalo. She later held research scientist responsibilities at Burke Rehabilitation Center and worked as a research chemist at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. Those years in the lab provided technical grounding for the next phase of her career.
Goudie shifted into patent law and built experience in private practice and in-house roles. She worked as a patent lawyer at Bryan Cave LLP and later served as patent counsel at Cooper & Dunham. She returned to industry as patent counsel for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, combining her scientific background with intellectual property responsibilities. At Revlon she held the title of Vice President, Law, Senior Patent Counsel and Assistant Secretary, a corporate role that involved managing patent matters and counseling business units on IP strategy. The sequence of positions illustrates a path from bench science to senior patent practice.
She is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and in New York. Goudie has been active in professional circles, including membership in the New York Intellectual Property Law Association since 2001. Her experience spans law firm practice, in-house patent counseling, and corporate legal leadership. Goudie is listed as working out of Wissing Miller, LLC. She concentrates her current practice on patent prosecution and counseling in the life sciences and related technologies.
