About Peter

Peter Tucker earned a B.A. in economics from Williams College in 2003 and a J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2009. He moved from a liberal arts background into law after several years working in finance and business analysis. The combination of economics training and legal education shaped an approach that puts commercial realities alongside legal analysis.

His early career began in the finance sector. In 2003 he worked as a business analyst at Deutsche Bank. He continued in similar roles, joining Plus Funds Group, Inc. as a business analyst in 2005. After law school he took on a legal role at Investment Technology Group, Inc. in 2009 as director, legal counsel. He became a member of the State Bar of New York in 2010 and retains that membership.

In 2019 Tucker moved into an in-house technology role, serving as senior counsel for technology and commercial transactions at Tanium Inc. At Tanium he handled commercial agreements and transactional matters that are common to software and services businesses. His responsibilities included negotiating customer and vendor contracts, advising on licensing arrangements, and supporting cross-functional teams on contract implementation.

Tucker holds a professional certification in open-source software legal matters. He is a Black Duck Open-Source Software Certified Legal Professional through Synopsys, Inc. That credential informs work on software licensing and open-source compliance. His practice experience spans commercial contracting, software licensing, vendor agreements, and related regulatory and compliance questions that affect technology companies.

He established the Law Offices of Peter Tucker, Esq., where he represents clients on transactional and commercial issues. The office draws on his background in both finance and technology. Clients have access to counsel who understands the commercial drivers behind contract terms and the technical aspects of software licensing.

Tucker combines corporate and in-house experience in a small-firm setting. He advises on drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, addressing open-source licensing questions, and resolving contractual disputes before they escalate. He has worked inside companies and at a private firm, which gives him perspective on both day-to-day deal work and longer-term strategic needs. He currently focuses his practice on technology and commercial transactions.
