About Joshua
Joshua Townsend built his legal foundation in the Midwest and the Mountain West. He earned a Juris Doctor from Hamline University School of Law in 2005 after completing undergraduate work in psychology at Boise State University, where he graduated in the early 2000s. Those years framed an interest in how people and institutions interact under pressure. That interest later informed his move into trial work and private practice.
Townsend began his post-law-school career in Idaho. In 2008 he joined Blackburn Law, PC as an associate, where he worked on litigation matters and learned the practical mechanics of running trials and preparing cases for court. The early years in a heavier litigation environment gave him daily experience in case strategy, discovery, and courtroom procedure. He remained in Idaho and deepened his ties to the local legal community.
In 2016 he launched Townsend & Associates. As owner and lawyer he oversaw the firm’s daily operations and shaped the services offered to clients. Running a small firm required attention to both law and management. He handled case intake, client counseling, and motions practice while directing litigation strategy. The move to open his own office marked a shift from being one of several lawyers at a firm to leading a practice that answers directly to clients.
Townsend has been a member of the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association since 2009. That ongoing membership reflects an ongoing engagement with lawyers who try cases in state courts. He participates in association meetings and continuing education offerings that address trial technique, evidence issues, and changes in state procedure. Through those channels he keeps current on developments that affect the everyday practice of litigation in Idaho.
His professional life is rooted in the Idaho bar and in local courts. He has balanced courtroom work with client counseling, and his practice has emphasized hands-on representation at all stages of litigation.
