About Joshua
Joshua Tomsheck began his professional path in the classroom. He earned a B.A. in finance and economics from St. Ambrose University, then turned to law at Drake University Law School, receiving his J.D. in 2001. Those years shaped his understanding of numbers and rules. They also set the stage for courtroom work.
Tomsheck moved into public service early in his legal career. In 2005 he served as Chief Deputy District Lawyer at the Clark County District Lawyer's Office. That role put him squarely in a high-volume courtroom environment. He handled serious matters against experienced trial prosecutors. After his time in the district office he entered private practice, where he has continued to take on criminal cases. He is currently a partner at Hofland & Tomsheck.
Courtroom credentials figure prominently in Tomsheck’s résumé. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court of Nevada. The State Bar of Nevada has certified him as a Specialist in Criminal Trial Law. Nationally, he holds board certification through the National Board of Trial Advocacy’s criminal trial division. He also completed the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers/National College for DUI Defense DWI program, earning certificates of completion for its "Defending with Ingenuity" series from 2011 through 2013.
Colleagues and clients encounter a lawyer who spends time on the mechanics of trial work. Trial strategy, evidence handling and witness preparation are regular features of his files. He has taken cases through motion practice and jury trials, drawing on the specialized training noted on his record. His mix of prosecutorial and defense experience gives him a practical view of how cases develop from arrest to verdict.
Tomsheck maintains memberships in a range of professional organizations. They include the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, where he holds life membership, and the National College for DUI Defense. He is also active in the Nevada Association for Criminal Justice, the Nevada Justice Association, the DUI Defense Lawyers of America and the National Trial Lawyers Association’s Criminal Defense Panel. These affiliations provide continuing education and a forum for trial-related discussion.
He practices at Hofland & Tomsheck. His current work handles criminal defense matters and DUI cases in Nevada courts.
