About Joshua
Joshua Karns earned his Juris Doctor from Tulane University School of Law. He brings a law school training rooted in New Orleans to a practice that operates across three states. Over the years he secured admission to practice in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Oregon. Those multi-state credentials shape how he approaches cases and clients.
He practices at Karns Law Group and maintains a Middletown office. His work spans matters that require courtroom appearances and filings in the states where he is licensed. He manages client relationships from initial consultation through resolution and coordinates filings across jurisdictions when cases cross state lines. Colleagues describe him as straightforward and practical in his courtroom demeanor.
Karns is a current member of the Rhode Island Volunteer Lawyer Program. That membership places him in a network of attorneys who accept referrals for limited-scope and pro bono matters. He has participated in volunteer panels and intake clinics that provide legal help to people who would otherwise have limited access to counsel. The volunteer work informs his perspective on access to the courts.
Being licensed in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Oregon requires attention to differing procedural rules and local practice. He represents clients in state and federal forums where he holds admission. That includes preparing pleadings, arguing motions and negotiating resolutions when possible. He has handled matters requiring coordination across state procedural systems and often works with local counsel when cases bring in issues from multiple jurisdictions.
In day-to-day practice he balances client-facing work out of Karns Law Group’s Middletown office with hearings and filings across his admitted states. He keeps an office-based schedule for consultations while arranging court appearances in Rhode Island, Massachusetts or Oregon as needed. His current practice centers on representing clients across Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Oregon.
