About Jonathan Holt
Jonathan Holt Stokes earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Auburn University in 2008 and a Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 2011. His undergraduate study gave him a grounding in political institutions and policy. Law school refined his analytical skills and introduced him to courtroom work. Those consecutive degrees set the course for a career that spans two state bars.
After law school, Stokes entered private practice and took up work across state lines. He is licensed to practice in Alabama and Virginia and holds a current membership in the Alabama State Bar. He has built experience representing clients in state and federal settings. Colleagues describe him as methodical; he tends to break complex problems into discrete steps and address them in order.
Stokes’s early years in practice involved a mix of courtroom appearances and client counseling. He has handled matters that required litigation strategy and others that demanded transactional care. That balance — between advocacy at trial and advising clients outside court — figures in how he approaches each new file. He pays attention to procedural detail while keeping sight of the client’s practical objectives.
At Stokes Stemle LLC he works alongside other attorneys and staff to serve individuals and organizations. His role at the firm includes drafting pleadings, negotiating resolutions and arguing before judges when cases proceed. He prefers clear, direct writing. He also prepares clients for what to expect in the process of a dispute, whether the matter moves through negotiation, mediation or trial.
Outside the office he keeps ties to the bar and to the legal community. He maintains his Alabama State Bar membership and remains involved in professional circles that touch on the practice of law in both states. That involvement helps him stay current on changes in rules and procedure that affect litigation and counseling.
Stokes continues to practice at Stokes Stemle LLC, handling legal matters for clients in Alabama and Virginia.
