About Jonathan E.
Jonathan E. Halperin graduated from George Washington University in 1987 and earned his J.D. from The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law in 1989. He entered the profession after law school at a time when courtroom work and appellate practice were expanding in the region. His education set a practical tone that has carried through a long legal career.
Early in his career he worked as an associate at Koonz, McKenney, Johnnson & Regan in 1991. That experience introduced him to trial preparation and courtroom procedure. He later became a founding partner at Regan, Halperin & Long in 1998, helping to shape the firm's litigation approach. Records indicate an affiliation with the Halperin Law Center beginning in 2008, and that association has formed the most recent chapter of his practice.
Halperin is admitted across several jurisdictions. He holds licenses that allow him to appear in the District of Columbia and Maryland courts, and in Virginia. He is also admitted to the D.C. Circuit and the Fourth Circuit. Those credentials have supported work that moves between trial courts and appellate courts. He has handled matters that require attention at both levels.
Professional memberships underscore the practical bent of his practice. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Maryland State Bar and the District of Columbia Bar. He also belongs to the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice. Those associations reflect participation in the litigation community and ongoing contact with peers who try cases in state and federal forums.
Throughout his career Halperin has balanced trial work and appellate practice. He has managed cases through fact development, motion practice and courtroom presentation, and has taken appeals when cases required review. Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and exacting in preparation. He maintains an active docket across the Mid-Atlantic courts.
He currently practices at the Halperin Law Center, where his work concentrates on civil litigation, including trial and appellate matters in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
