About John
John Wonais built his legal foundation at Indiana University, where he completed a B.A. in 2011, and then went on to earn his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in 2014. Those years set the stage for a practice centered on consumer financial issues and courtroom advocacy. He entered the profession at a time when consumer debt and bankruptcy questions were prominent on many clients' lists of concerns.
After law school, Wonais established his practice at Wonais Law, LLC. He has maintained that practice through the mid-2020s, representing individuals in bankruptcy and related consumer matters. His membership in the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers reflects a professional interest in the particular challenges that debtors face. He has developed experience handling the paperwork, hearings and negotiations that shape typical consumer bankruptcy cases.
Wonais is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He is also admitted to the bar of the United States Supreme Court. Those admissions allow him to handle matters that move beyond trial courts, including appeals and filings that require admission to higher courts. They also indicate a willingness to take cases into appellate forums when a client’s situation demands it.
Colleagues and clients describe him as straightforward in court and careful in preparing cases. He focuses on practical solutions rather than theoretical arguments. In bankruptcy proceedings that often involve time-sensitive filings and creditor negotiations, he emphasizes clarity and timeliness in communications and filings.
Outside the courtroom, Wonais has participated in professional associations that concentrate on consumer bankruptcy practice. Those memberships keep him engaged with changes in bankruptcy rules, recent case law, and the procedural shifts that affect everyday practice. He attends CLE programs and association events that address litigation strategy, claims administration and the evolving landscape of consumer protection law.
Today he practices from Wonais Law, LLC. He represents individuals in consumer bankruptcy and related debt matters, handling both routine filings and cases that require appellate or higher-court involvement.
