About Dragan
By the time evidence reaches an international courtroom, a different set of rules begins to matter. Dragan Ivetic learned those rules in classrooms and then put them to work across tribunals and courts on three continents. He holds a B.A. in philosophy from Northwestern University (1996) and earned his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1999.
Early in his career he joined the Illinois bar and took cases in state and federal courts, including the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. That domestic practice provided courtroom experience that later transferred to international work. Over the years he has appeared before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and its successor body, the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals. He is also admitted before the International Criminal Court and has standing in the State Court of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Ivetic’s practice has been shaped by defence work in high-stakes settings. He has served on matters that required detailed knowledge of international criminal procedure, rules of evidence and cross-border litigation logistics. His experience spans written submissions, oral argument and the practical demands of representing clients in international custody or when proceedings involve multiple jurisdictions.
Professional associations have been a constant thread in his profile. He has been a member of the Association of Defence Counsel Practising before International Courts and Tribunals since 2004 and in 2022 he joined its executive committee as Vice President. He chaired the Defence Section of the International Criminal Court Bar Association from 2021 to 2022 and later joined the ICCBA Training Committee. He is also a member of the International Bar Association since 2018 and has remained active in the Illinois State Bar Association since 1999.
Those positions reflect both practice and peer engagement. Colleagues describe him as someone comfortable in adversarial hearings and in the procedural work behind them. He has balanced obligations in national courts and international institutions, an uncommon combination that requires both technical knowledge and attention to logistics.
Ivetic maintains a private practice under the name Dragan Ivetic, Lawyer at Law, LLC. He continues to accept matters that involve defence representation before international and domestic tribunals, managing cases that implicate cross-border criminal law and international procedure.
