About John
John Westfield combines a business education and a law degree in a career that has moved steadily from classrooms to court filings. He earned a B.A. in Business Administration from Flagler College in 2005, then continued his studies at the University of North Florida, where he received an MBA in 2008. He completed his legal training at Florida Coastal School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2015.
After finishing law school, Westfield entered legal practice and took on the role of associate lawyer at Canan Law in 2016. He joined a firm environment early in his career and has remained there, working on cases and matters brought to the office. His work as an associate has involved the day-to-day responsibilities typical of early career attorneys: legal research, drafting pleadings and memoranda, and assisting in courtroom preparation. Colleagues describe him as thorough in preparing the factual and legal materials that support a client's position.
Westfield was admitted to the Florida State Bar the year he graduated law school and has maintained that membership since 2015. Two years later, in 2017, he secured admission to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Those credentials allow him to represent clients in both state and federal forums when a matter requires it. He remains an active member of both organizations as of 2026.
His academic background in business and his MBA are recurring themes in how he approaches legal problems. He tends to place emphasis on the financial and organizational dimensions of a matter. That approach informs how he analyzes evidence, frames legal arguments, and advises clients on practical consequences. He also draws on experience handling procedural work in federal court, which has shaped his familiarity with that system's rules and expectations.
At Canan Law, Westfield continues to work as an associate. He spends his time preparing filings, supporting trial teams, and managing client-facing tasks that require both legal and business judgment. He is based at the firm's offices and remains active in both the Florida bar and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. His current practice concentrates on matters that intersect legal issues and business concerns.
