About John T. Sparks

John T. Sparks Sr. built an academic foundation that mixes the humanities and field study. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1980 from the University of Mississippi, majoring in English, anthropology and history. He remained at Ole Miss for a master’s degree in archaeology, completed in 1984, and then took up law at the University of Mississippi School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 1987. The range of his studies shapes how he approaches facts and evidence.

Soon after finishing law school he began practicing in Georgia. He is admitted to the State Bar of Georgia and authorized to appear before the Supreme Court of Georgia. Federal admissions include the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Georgia. Those credentials have allowed him to handle matters at both state and federal levels across the region.

Sparks is associated with Austin & Sparks, P.C., where he has practiced for years. His work there has involved courtroom appearances and filings in both state and federal forums. He brings a methodical sensibility to case preparation. He favors careful review of documents and witness statements, and he pays attention to chronological detail.

Professional involvement runs through his career. He holds memberships in the State Bar of Georgia and the Atlanta Bar Association, where he is part of the Litigation Section. He is also a member of the Lawyers Club of Atlanta and is listed with the Georgia Court of Appeals. Those affiliations reflect ongoing ties to the legal community and regular engagement with peers on procedural and substantive questions.

Outside the office he has an academic background that is a little different from many of his colleagues. His graduate work in archaeology reflects an interest in tangible evidence and historical context. His undergraduate majors in English, anthropology and history have informed how he writes and how he organizes facts for juries and judges.

Colleagues describe him as thorough in preparation and deliberate in litigation strategy. He has handled a variety of civil matters and federal filings over the course of his career. He currently practices at Austin & Sparks, P.C., where his work centers on litigation and related legal matters.
