About John R.

John R. Spade began his legal education in Alabama and stayed there to build his practice. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Auburn University in 2011 and completed his Juris Doctor at Cumberland School of Law, Samford University in 2015. Those years provided classroom training and clinic work that shaped his early approach to litigation.

Before joining a law firm as an attorney, Spade spent several years as a law clerk. In 2013 he clerked at Smith, Spires & Peddy, P.C., then took successive clerk positions in 2014 at Butler Snow LLP and at Hare, Wynn, Newell & Newton, LLP. Those clerkships exposed him to litigation procedures, discovery practice and courtroom preparation in a range of civil matters.

In 2015 Spade moved into practice as a lawyer at Hollis Wright. He has remained associated with that office since then. At Hollis Wright he took on client representation, managed case development and participated in trial preparation. Colleagues described him as methodical in case work and steady in court settings.

Spade is a member of several professional groups. He belongs to the Alabama Bar Association and sits in the James Edwin Horton Inn of Court. He is also a member of the American Association for Justice and the Alabama Association for Justice, organizations that gather trial lawyers and litigators across state and national levels. Those memberships give him access to continuing legal education and peer discussion on trial practice and civil procedure.

His practice is rooted in courtroom procedure and civil litigation. Over the years he has handled pretrial motions, discovery disputes and client counseling in preparation for trial. He keeps a clear line between case assessment and client expectations, explaining options plainly and outlining likely next steps. He continues to work out of Hollis Wright, handling civil litigation and trial matters in Alabama.

Spade maintains his license in Alabama and stays active in bar and trial lawyer organizations. He remains based at Hollis Wright, where his work centers on civil litigation and trial advocacy in state courts in Alabama.
