About John

John Faro trained first as a scientist and then as a lawyer. He earned a B.A. in Chemistry and Biology from Northeastern University in 1966 and completed his J.D. at Boston University School of Law in 1969. Those two degrees shaped a career that has combined technical work and intellectual property law for more than five decades.

After law school he joined E.I. du Pont de Nemours as a patent lawyer in the Industrial and Biologics Division. That early role placed him at the intersection of laboratory research and patent practice. Over the next decade he moved through in-house patent positions in manufacturing and technology companies. In 1971 he worked in the Plastics Division at Owens-Illinois. The following year he accepted a patent lawyer role in Material Sciences at Xerox in Rochester, New York. In 1978 he served as Assistant Licensing Counsel in the Chemical Division at B.F. Goodrich in Independence, Ohio.

In 1981 Faro took patent counsel roles at Baxter Healthcare, then operating under the name American Hospital Supply. He handled matters for the Diagnostic Products Division in Miami and an Endoscope Division in Stanford, California. That period included both prosecution and counseling responsibilities tied to medical devices and related technologies. He also helped establish a professional group in South Florida; he was a co-founder of the South Florida Intellectual Property Association and participated in that organization during the 1980s.

In 1986 he left corporate practice to establish his own firm, Faro & Associates. He has run the private practice since then. His registration as a patent attorney before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, combined with admissions that include Massachusetts and the Federal Circuit, has allowed him to handle federal claims and patent prosecutions across forums.

Faro’s career reflects steady service in patent law across several industrial sectors: chemicals, plastics, materials, medical devices and diagnostics. He has balanced in-house roles that required close technical collaboration with outside counseling and prosecution work. On a personal note, he is a certificated private pilot under FAA rules, a qualification that surfaces occasionally in conversations about technical hobbies and interests.

Now in private practice at Faro & Associates, he continues to provide patent prosecution and patent counseling to client inventors and companies. His current practice concentrates on patent prosecution, patent counseling, and related intellectual property matters.
