About Jim
Jim Boness built a mixed academic foundation that spans law, business and technical training. He earned a J.D. from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2002 after beginning studies there in 1999. In 2016 he took advanced classes in intellectual property at The John Marshall Law School. He later returned to school for an MBA at Portland State University, completing that program in 2020 after starting in 2018.
He moved into private practice in the early 2000s. In 2004 he opened the Law Office of Jim Boness, handling a range of matters for individual and business clients. In 2016 he launched INTELLEQUITY Legal Services, LLC and has operated that firm since. His practice has remained based in Oregon, where he is authorized to practice law.
Boness combines legal training with technical credentials uncommon among lawyers. He holds a Federal Aviation Administration A&P mechanic license. That mechanical background appears alongside his study of intellectual property and business law. The result is a profile that suits technical and transactional issues as well as traditional client counseling. Colleagues say his work often requires translating complex engineering or equipment problems into legal claims and contracts.
Cases and client files over the years show steady small-firm practice rather than courtroom spectacle. He has handled counseling, contract drafting and transactional work for business clients. His MBA has influenced how he approaches business matters, bringing additional perspective on finance and organizational issues. The advanced IP coursework informed his approach to patent- and trademark-adjacent problems, particularly where technical detail matters.
He maintains his practice through INTELLEQUITY Legal Services, LLC and continues to serve clients in Oregon. His current practice handles intellectual property-related issues, business law matters and technical regulatory questions that intersect with aviation and mechanical systems.
