About Jerrod

Jerrod Shermoen earned his Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1997, after beginning his studies there in 1994. The law school years shaped his approach to analysis and advocacy. They also provided a foundation in legal research, statutory interpretation, and courtroom procedure that has informed his work ever since.

After graduating, Shermoen moved into the practice of law. His career has spanned the changes in the profession over the last three decades. He has navigated shifting procedural rules, evolving technology in case preparation, and the changing expectations of clients and courts. Those developments have required adaptability and attention to detail, both of which figure prominently in his professional routine.

Shermoen’s background in law school placed emphasis on core litigation skills. He developed experience in drafting pleadings, preparing witnesses, and constructing legal arguments. Over time those basic skills expanded to include negotiation, case strategy, and client counseling. Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and methodical in preparation. He prefers clear legal reasoning and practical solutions that respond to the realities clients face.

Outside of courtroom hours he has worked on the practical mechanics of law practice. That includes managing case files, coordinating with experts and investigators, and communicating complex legal issues in plain terms to clients. Those tasks require organization and an ability to translate legal concepts into day-to-day implications. Shermoen relies on those competencies when advising clients and when crafting written submissions for courts or administrative bodies.

He has also kept up with continuing legal education and the procedural developments that affect litigation and counseling. Staying current has allowed him to adjust strategies as rules and precedent shift. It has also helped him mentor younger lawyers and support staff, passing on practical lessons about preparation and client communication.

Shermoen approaches each matter by weighing legal theory against practical outcomes. He values careful preparation and direct communication. As of 2026 he continues to practice law, concentrating on client counseling and courtroom advocacy.
