About Jennifer R.
Jennifer R. Egelston earned her law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law, completing the J.D. program in 2020 after beginning her studies in 2017. She arrived in law school with courtroom clerkship experience and left with practical training in several public-sector settings. Those early years shaped a pragmatic approach to litigation and client work.
Her legal resume begins before graduation. In 2018 she worked as a clerk in Knox County General Sessions, Criminal Division, observing arraignments and hearing procedures. The following year she took a legal intern position with the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, gaining exposure to dependency and child welfare matters. During her final year of law school she served as a student lawyer intern with the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division, which added federal civil litigation experience to her résumé. She also supervised volunteer visitation in 2020, managing logistics and oversight for court-ordered family contact programs.
After passing licensing requirements, she launched her own practice. Since 2021 she has operated as a lawyer under her own name. Her membership record shows active involvement in professional groups across two states and locally: she is affiliated with the Ohio State Bar Association and the Cincinnati Bar Association, as well as the Knoxville Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Those memberships reflect the bi-state nature of her work and the professional networks she draws upon.
Egelston’s earlier roles exposed her to criminal court processes, child welfare administration and federal civil litigation. She has moved between institutional roles and private practice in a short span, which has given her familiarity with how public agencies and courts handle cases. That experience informs how she prepares filings, evaluates case posture and communicates with clients.
Colleagues describe her as methodical in courtroom preparation and straightforward in client communication. She balances litigation experience from internships and clerkships with the administrative demands of running a solo practice. Her public-sector internships provided courtroom observation and client-facing responsibilities, and her private practice has required handling case intake, client counseling and court filings.
Jennifer R. Egelston maintains a solo practice under the name Jennifer R. Egelston, Lawyer at Law, and practices in both Tennessee and Ohio. She currently operates her private practice and handles matters arising across those jurisdictions.
