About Jeffrey Lee
Jeffrey Lee Murrell earned his law degree from Marquette University in 1995. He completed his legal studies after entering the program in 1992, finishing with a J.D. that set the stage for courtroom work. The Marquette curriculum and the law community in Milwaukee shaped his early approach to practice: practical, procedural and oriented toward trial work.
Murrell is admitted to practice in Wisconsin and to appear in both the federal Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin. His professional qualifications include trial certification through the Wisconsin State Public Defender’s Office. That credential signals formal recognition of his readiness to represent clients at trial under the standards used by the state’s public defense system.
Much of Murrell’s career has centered on litigation. Trial certification commonly accompanies hands-on experience in contested hearings and jury trials. He has worked on matters that require preparation for courtroom presentation, witness examination, and motion practice. Those routine demands shape the skills trial lawyers use regularly: careful preparation, courtroom presence and an ability to respond to live developments in front of a judge or jury.
Appearing in both state and federal courts has broadened the kinds of procedures and strategic choices available to him. State practice brings a particular set of rules and local procedures. Federal practice requires attention to a different set of rules and often tighter deadlines. Murrell’s admissions to the Eastern and Western districts mean he can manage filings and hearings across both federal scheduling systems and the state calendar.
Colleagues and peers describe trial lawyers by the kinds of work they do rather than labels. For Murrell, that work includes courtroom representation that starts with investigation, moves through pretrial litigation and reaches resolution at trial when necessary. The certification through the State Public Defender’s Office is one marker of that path. It reflects an ability to take cases to trial in settings where constitutional and procedural safeguards are frequently contested.
As of 2026 Murrell remains based in Wisconsin and continues to appear in both state courts and the federal Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, concentrating on trial-level representation and courtroom advocacy.
