About Jay
Jay Sadd began his path to the law at East Tennessee State University, where he earned a B.A. in Business and Marketing in 1984. He continued his studies at Mercer University's Walter F. George School of Law and received his J.D. in 1987. The combination of business education and a law degree shaped the practical approach he would bring to litigation and client work.
After law school Sadd entered private practice. In 1988 he joined Hawkins Parnell Thackston & Young LLP, where he handled civil matters for a range of clients. Four years later he became a partner at Slappey & Sadd LLC, a firm where he has remained a principal since 1992. The move marked a long-term shift into a practice centered on courtroom work and litigation management.
Sadd is admitted to practice in multiple jurisdictions. His admissions include the State of Georgia and the Eleventh Circuit, and he is also a member of the West Virginia Bar Association. He is admitted to the Georgia Supreme Court and the Georgia Court of Appeals, and he appears in the United States District Courts of Georgia. That array of admissions has allowed him to handle cases at both trial and appellate levels across state and federal forums.
Professional associations populate much of his calendar outside of casework. He holds memberships in the State Bar of Georgia, the Atlanta Bar Association and the Atlanta Lawyers Club. He is also affiliated with the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice, the Sandy Springs Bar Association and the DeKalb Bar Association. These memberships keep him engaged with peers and current developments in litigation practice.
Colleagues describe Sadd as methodical in preparation and direct in court. He tends to prefer clear themes and reliable evidence over theatrical presentation. He has handled contested matters that required sustained discovery, motion practice and trial work, and he has been involved in appeals that moved through Georgia’s higher courts and the federal appellate system.
Sadd’s educational background and long tenure at Slappey & Sadd LLC have established him as a familiar presence in Georgia litigation circles. He continues to practice at Slappey & Sadd LLC, handling civil litigation matters in Georgia and in federal courts where he is admitted.
