About Jared

Jared Olsen blends lawmaking and lawyering. He is a lawyer who has spent much of the last decade in the Wyoming Legislature, and his education reflects that mix of legal training and public administration. He earned a J.D. from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 2013 and completed a Master of Public Administration at the University of Wyoming the same year. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Weber State University, awarded in 2010.

Olsen first won election to the Wyoming House of Representatives in 2016 and has represented District 11 since then. His tenure in the House has included leadership positions and committee chairs that put him at the center of several policy debates. He has served as Majority Whip and as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. In 2022 he chaired the House Corporations, Elections, and Political Subdivisions Committee. In 2020 he chaired the Select Committee on Blockchain and Digital Innovation, a sign of the Legislature’s interest in emerging technologies.

Committee work has been a steady feature of Olsen’s public service. He has been a member of the Joint Appropriations Committee and the House Rules Committee. He has sat on the Wyoming Court Security Commission and been appointed to the Equal Justice Commission of the Wyoming Supreme Court. Earlier roles included membership on the Legislature’s Judiciary Committee and participation in a Blockchain Committee that studied legal and operational issues tied to distributed ledgers.

Beyond the Legislature, Olsen has been active within party ranks. He served as Vice Chairman of the Wyoming Republican Party in 2017. He also holds memberships in professional circles, including the Southeast Wyoming Estate Planning Council, and continues his engagement with the Wyoming House of Representatives as a current officeholder.

On the legal side, Olsen is licensed by the Wyoming Supreme Court and admitted to the United States District Court for the District of Wyoming. He is listed as having jurisdiction in Wyoming and before the Federal Circuit. His combined training in law and public administration has informed work at the intersection of legislation, courts, and administrative policy. That background is reflected in the subjects he has repeatedly worked on: judicial matters, elections and political subdivisions, appropriations, court security, and technology policy related to blockchain and digital innovation.

He balances public responsibilities with private practice in Wyoming. He continues to serve in the state Legislature while practicing law, handling matters in state and federal courts and advising on issues that touch both public policy and legal procedure.
