About James R.
James R. Ronca earned his J.D. from Pennsylvania State University’s Dickinson School of Law in 1977. He entered the legal profession at a time when mass tort practice was evolving into the dominant framework for complex product cases. His academic credential gave him the foundation to build a career that has centered on multi-district litigation and product liability work.
Early in his career Ronca took on cases that required coordination among large plaintiff groups and multiple defense teams. Over time he became a recurring presence in federal multi-district litigation dockets. He has served as Co-Lead Counsel in three major products liability MDLs: Mirena IUD Products Liability Litigation (MDL 2434), Trasylol Products Liability Litigation, and Zimmer NexGen Products Liability Litigation. Those roles placed him in the procedural core of high-stakes litigation. He helped manage consolidated discovery, worked on class and bellwether strategies where appropriate, and took part in negotiating case-management plans.
People who have followed those MDLs will recognize the kinds of tasks that fall to a co-lead: organizing large document productions, coordinating experts, and briefing complex motions that can shape an entire docket. Ronca’s repeated selection to leadership reflects experience in handling these procedural and substantive demands. He has operated primarily within Pennsylvania, where he holds membership in the Pennsylvania State Bar.
His work spans the lifecycle of product cases. He has been involved in early investigatory phases and in later-stage litigation that can include deposition-heavy discovery and Daubert challenges. The MDLs named in his record cover a range of product issues, from medical devices to pharmaceutical agents to orthopedic implants. That breadth has required adapting litigation tactics to different medical and scientific contexts.
Ronca divides his practice between two Pennsylvania offices. He has maintained a presence in Philadelphia and in Harrisburg, allowing him to litigate in federal and state courts across the region. He remains active in product liability matters and in coordinating complex, multi-party litigation across jurisdictions.
He currently practices law in Pennsylvania, concentrating on products liability and multi-district litigation matters.
