About James

James Lawrence earned his Juris Doctor from Lincoln Memorial University in 2013 after beginning his legal studies in 2009. During law school he took on editorial and leadership roles that shaped his early approach to practice. He served as an associate editor of the Law Review in 2012 and was vice president of Moot Court in 2011. Those experiences reinforced a habit of careful legal research, precise writing and testing arguments under pressure.

After law school Lawrence obtained licenses to practice in both Tennessee and Alabama. He maintains active memberships in professional organizations, including the Alabama State Bar Association, which he joined in 2023. His dual jurisdiction status allows him to handle matters across state lines and to advise clients on procedural differences that can matter in litigation and transactional work.

Law review and moot court work translated into practical skills early in his career. The Law Review role sharpened his ability to analyze case law and draft detailed memoranda. Moot Court offered repeated chances to refine oral argument and to respond to questioning from panels. Colleagues describe his courtroom style as concise and grounded in precedent, favoring clear statutory interpretation over expansive theory.

He practices from The J Law Office, where he draws on experience in both written advocacy and courtroom presentation. The office operates in a manner that emphasizes thorough case preparation. Clients meet an attorney who prefers a measured, document-driven approach and who places weight on early case assessment and realistic planning.

Outside of casework, Lawrence continues to engage with bar activities and professional development. He attends continuing legal education programs to stay current on changes in state procedure and recent appellate decisions that affect trial strategy. Those efforts feed directly into the advice he gives clients and the motions he files.

He currently represents clients in state matters across Tennessee and Alabama. His current practice focuses on providing counsel and representation to individuals and businesses on legal issues arising under state law.
