About James D.

James D. Barger built a foundation in storytelling before he ever set foot in a courtroom. He earned a B.S. in journalism from the University of Florida, a course of study that trained him to gather facts, ask pointed questions and write with clarity. Those habits stayed with him when he moved on to study law.

He went on to receive his J.D. from Temple University. His legal education sharpened his analytical skills and introduced him to the technical craft of legal writing and research. Classrooms and casebooks deepened an instinct for careful inquiry that had its roots in his undergraduate training.

After law school he entered practice in the Mid-Atlantic. He is admitted to the bars of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Practicing in two neighboring states has required attention to differences in procedure, local court cultures and statutory nuance. That dual admission has also meant handling matters that touch both jurisdictions.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing papers and direct in oral presentations. He applies the discipline of journalism to legal work: clear statements, concise records and an emphasis on sourcing. That approach informs how he develops a case file, drafts pleadings and communicates with clients. He tends to favor plain language over excess legalese.

Over the years he has worked on matters that brought together research, negotiation and advocacy. He spends time on factual development and on anticipating opposing arguments. He values efficient case management and a steady command of deadlines. Those practical elements often shape outcomes as much as substantive law.

Outside the office he has kept ties to the professional and civic communities where he practices. He follows developments in state courts and regulatory developments that affect local clients. He also pays attention to how changing media and communications practices alter public record and evidence gathering.

His professional identity is rooted in two parts of his background: formal legal training at Temple and the journalistic habits honed at the University of Florida. Both influence how he evaluates fact patterns and presents them to others. He currently practices law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
