About Jacob D.
Jacob D. Rhein built his legal foundation at the University of Saint Thomas, earning a B.A. in Philosophy in 2007 and an M.A. in Catholic Studies in 2010. He then turned to law, completing his J.D. at the University of Minnesota Law School in 2015. Those years stitched together a background in humanities and legal training that informs how he approaches cases today.
He began his professional career immediately after law school in public defense. In 2015 he joined the City of Atlanta Office of the Public Defender, where he handled trial-level matters for clients facing criminal charges. The next year he moved into appellate work at the Georgia Public Defender Council’s Appellate Division. There he wrote briefs, argued appeals, and helped shape post-conviction strategies for clients across the state.
In 2017 Rhein started Rhein Law LLC. He lists an office under that name and also has operated as the Law Offices of Jacob D. Rhein. Running a small practice changed his day-to-day rhythm. He shifted from a government role to managing client intake, directing litigation strategy, and overseeing the business side of a firm. Those tasks sit alongside courtroom and appellate work.
Rhein is licensed in both Georgia and Minnesota and maintains membership in several bar organizations. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Atlanta Bar Association, and he also belongs to the Minnesota State Bar Association. Those memberships reflect ties to both states where he has lived and worked.
His experience centers on criminal defense and appellate representation. The work at the public defender offices provided extended exposure to trial preparation, plea negotiations, and post-conviction appeals. In private practice he continues to handle criminal cases while accepting appeals and related civil matters that intersect with criminal records and sentencing.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in case preparation and concise in written advocacy. He favors clear legal writing and practical courtroom tactics. Outside the courtroom he handles client counseling and case management that smaller firms must provide, balancing litigation with the administrative demands of practice.
As of 2026 Rhein maintains an active practice through Rhein Law LLC and the Law Offices of Jacob D. Rhein. He practices in both Georgia and Minnesota, handling criminal defense and appellate matters in state courts and related legal work.
