About J. Curt
J. Curt Tanner graduated from Auburn University and earned his J.D. from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 2013. He completed his legal studies at a time when the practice of law was shifting fast. The classroom work and clinic experience at Cumberland prepared him for courtroom practice and the demands of civil procedure.
After law school, Tanner established his practice in Alabama. He is licensed to practice in the state and maintains professional memberships that reflect his interest in trial work and civil justice. He belongs to the Birmingham Bar Association and is an active member of national and state trial organizations, including the American Association for Justice and the Alabama Association for Justice, where he participates in the Emerging Leaders Section.
Tanner's career has been shaped by litigation. He has spent his time developing skills in courtroom advocacy, case preparation and client counseling. He approaches each matter with an emphasis on careful factual investigation and rigorous legal analysis. He prepares filings, takes and defends depositions, and represents clients in hearings and trials. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparation and steady under pressure.
At Cory Watson Lawyers, Tanner works alongside other litigators on complex civil matters. The firm's docket exposes him to contested proceedings and jury practice. He attends continuing legal education programs and participates in bar association activities that keep him current on procedural developments and trial strategy.
Outside the courtroom, Tanner contributes to the bar through the Alabama Association for Justice's Emerging Leaders Section. That involvement connects him with peers and offers opportunities for professional development. He also engages with local law community events through the Birmingham Bar Association.
Tanner's practice is anchored in Alabama courts. He advises clients, drafts pleadings and advocates in trial settings. He focuses on civil litigation and trial advocacy and handles matters consistent with his membership in trial and justice organizations.
