About Ilona
Ilona Shparaga earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Baltimore in 2014 and continued at the same school for her law degree, receiving a J.D. in 2017. She completed a traditional course of study that combined classroom work with practical skills training offered by the law school. Those years in Baltimore laid the groundwork for a courtroom practice and an early immersion in state and federal procedure.
After law school she gained admission to the Maryland bar in 2017 and has maintained active membership in the Maryland State Bar since then. Over the years she expanded her admissions to include the District of Columbia, the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Those jurisdictions have shaped the contours of her caseload and the venues where she appears on behalf of clients.
Shparaga joined Silverman Thompson as an associate. In that role she has taken on matters in both trial and appellate settings. Her work requires attention to procedural detail and the ability to prepare filings for different judicial levels. Colleagues describe her as methodical in preparing records and attentive to briefing requirements.
Her courtroom experience reflects the range of courts to which she is admitted. She has prepared documents for proceedings in Maryland state courts and in federal district court, and she has drafted appellate briefs for filings in the Fourth Circuit. The combination of district and circuit practice means she is accustomed to shifting between fact development and legal argument, and to tailoring written work for different audiences of judges.
Outside the courtroom she has remained connected to the bar through professional membership and by participating in firm-level work. That includes collaborating on case strategy and supporting more senior lawyers in developing litigation plans. Her role as an associate has involved both client-facing tasks and behind-the-scenes work that moves matters forward through discovery and motion practice.
She continues to practice at Silverman Thompson, handling matters that proceed in state and federal courts and in appellate venues. Her current work centers on litigation and appellate filings across the jurisdictions in which she is admitted.
