About Heather A.
Heather A. Patchen built a layered education before she set up shop as a solo practitioner. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1997. She returned to school for an MBA from Florida Atlantic University, completed in 2006. A law degree followed at Florida International University College of Law, where she received her J.D. in 2011. The sequence suggests a career path that moved from communications into business and then into law.
She entered private practice soon after law school and established Patchen Law, P.A. in 2013. She serves as the firm's owner and president. Running a small firm means handling many roles. She manages operations, directs case strategy, and shepherds client matters from intake through resolution. The work requires both legal judgment and day-to-day business management.
Patchen is admitted to practice in Florida and Colorado. That geographic reach shapes the type of matters her office accepts and the procedural rules she must follow. It also means coordinating filings and appearances across two state systems. Her registration with two jurisdictions gives her the flexibility to represent clients whose issues cross state lines.
She maintains an active role within the Florida State Bar as a member of the Eminent Domain Committee. That committee focuses on legal developments connected to takings, land use and compensation. Her participation signals an interest in property and public-works issues and places her in discussions with other practitioners and policymakers on those topics.
Colleagues describe her approach as practical. She favors clear explanations over legal jargon. In client interactions she aims for straightforward advice and a plan that fits the circumstances. At the firm she balances casework with administrative responsibilities. Those include supervising support staff, managing case budgets, and ensuring compliance with court deadlines.
Patchen has guided Patchen Law, P.A. through more than a decade of practice. She continues to represent clients and to engage in bar work that touches on land-use and eminent domain issues. She currently focuses her practice on matters in Florida and Colorado and on issues related to eminent domain at Patchen Law, P.A.
