About Jay R.

Jay R. Beskin built a career at the intersection of law, accounting and local public service. He studied international affairs as an undergraduate, then turned to law. That combination has shaped a steady, practical approach to tax and business matters.

He earned a B.S. from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in 1975 and a J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis in 1978. He also holds a C.P.A. credential from the University of Illinois, a credential that complements his legal training and informs the way he handles financial and tax issues.

Beskin's career spans private practice, firm leadership and municipal government. Early on he held roles at various law offices. By 1989 he was a partner and owner at Foley & Lardner, where he handled matters that drew on both his legal and accounting background. He later worked as counsel in other firms and accepted of counsel positions that allowed him to advise on complex tax and regulatory matters without running a large litigation practice.

He served as a City Commissioner for the City of Aventura in 1995. That stint in municipal government added a public-facing dimension to his work. It also brought experience in administrative and local governance issues, and exposed him to the regulatory concerns that many businesses and individuals encounter at the city level.

Beskin maintains bar memberships in Florida, Illinois and the District of Columbia. He has been active in professional and bar organizations. He has served as Past Vice Chair of Grievance Committee 17G in The Florida Bar, Tax Law Section, and as Past Vice Chair of a Grievance Committee in the District of Columbia Bar. He also holds memberships in the American Bar Association's Tax Law Section, the American Constitution Society, and several local bar associations including Broward, Chicago, Dade and Miami Lakes. His professional network includes groups that address family law issues; he is a member of the National Association of Divorce Professionals.

Across decades of practice, Beskin has blended tax law, accounting and municipal experience. He has chosen roles that emphasize advisory and regulatory work, including of counsel positions at Gray Robinson, P.A. in 2007 and at Assouline & Berlowe, P.A., where he currently serves as of counsel. He currently practices in tax and related business matters.
