About Gregory

Gregory Sowder took a winding route to the law. He earned a B.A. in history from the University of California, Davis in 1989, spent time at Golden Gate University School of Law in 1993, and completed his J.D. at Rutgers School of Law–Newark in 1996. The mix of a liberal arts undergraduate education and three years of legal training gave him a broad perspective on how rules, institutions and histories interact.

He practices in California and has built his career around a small-firm model. Sowder is the owner of Sowder Law Office, APC. In that role he manages both the legal work and the business side of practice. Running a firm requires balancing casework, client communication and administrative duties. He has chosen to maintain that hands-on involvement rather than move into a larger firm structure.

Professionally, Sowder has taken part in local bar activities. He has been a member of the Alameda County Bar Association since 2010 and remains active in that organization. Those ties keep him connected to colleagues and to developments in court procedures and local practice standards.

Colleagues describe his background as grounded rather than flashy. The combination of a history degree and law training shapes how he reads documents and frames arguments; he tends to pay attention to context as much as to immediate legal rules. That approach can matter when deadlines are tight and the facts are layered. It also informs how he prepares for hearings and client meetings.

Sowder’s practice reflects a preference for direct client contact. He handles matters through his own office and directs the day-to-day work for his clients. He has chosen to keep his practice focused and manageable so he can respond personally to client concerns.

Outside of casework, he maintains professional ties within the California legal community. He follows court decisions and state rules that affect his practice and participates in bar events when schedules allow. The combination of academic training and private practice experience shapes the way he approaches each file.

He currently focuses his practice through Sowder Law Office, APC.
