About Gerard
Gerard Virga began his legal journey after earning a J.D. from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 2004, following a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Florida in 2000. He entered the bar in 2004 and has since built a practice grounded in courtroom work and litigation. Early academic years fed an interest in how law and history intersect, a perspective he carries into litigation and client counseling.
His first notable post-law school position was a law clerkship in 2003 for United States Senator Jeff Sessions. That early exposure to federal practice and legislative work introduced him to the procedural side of law and public service. After gaining practical experience, he became a partner at Virga Law Offices, P.A. in 2007. In 2015 he founded The Virga Law Office, P.A., where he continues to practice. Over the years he has appeared in state courts across Florida and in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida.
Virga’s memberships trace the arc of his practice. He has been a member of the Florida Bar since 2004 and holds admission to the Northern District of Florida federal court. He joined the Bay County Bar Association in the mid-2000s and later expanded his involvement to groups focused on trial work and defense practice. He belongs to the National Trial Lawyers Association and to a National Trial Team in the American Trial Lawyers Association. He also serves as an associate editor of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy, a role that keeps him engaged with developments in trial procedure and evidence.
His association list includes organizations tied to criminal defense and family law. He has maintained membership in the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Law since 2013 and joined the Florida Bar’s Family Law Section the same year. Those affiliations suggest a practice that often involves contested hearings and trials, along with the negotiation and procedural demands that come with family and criminal matters.
Colleagues describe Virga as a lawyer who spends time in court. He handles litigation in both state and federal venues and prepares for cases through traditional investigation, motion practice, and trial preparation. He has combined courtroom work with editorial responsibilities at a trial advocacy journal, balancing practice and professional scholarship.
As of 2026, Gerard Virga practices through The Virga Law Office, P.A., where his work centers on litigation in state and federal courts involving criminal defense and family law matters.
