Georgia K. McMillen is a attorney based in Wailuku, Hawaii, specializing in criminal law with additional expertise in family law, divorce, appeals, arbitration, mediation, and white-collar crime. She earned her Juris Doctor from New York Law School in 1987, following a Master of Arts from Indiana University in 1982 and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Hawaii in 1978. Admitted to practice in Hawaii, New York, and New Jersey, Ms. McMillen is also authorized to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second, Third. Ninth Circuits. Her federal court admissions include the U.S.
District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, New Jersey, and Hawaii. In her early career, Ms. McMillen represented individual and corporate clients in business, commercial, insurance, and employment litigation, as well as appellate matters at Lowenstein Sandler. She later joined Ross & Hardies (now McGuire Woods), focusing on commercial litigation, bankruptcy proceedings, and appeals for financial institutions. Returning to Hawaii in 1998, she developed a comprehensive practice in civil and criminal appellate litigation across federal and state courts and in all areas of family law. Beyond litigation, Ms. McMillen has extensive mediation experience. She mediates for Dispute Prevention & Resolution in Honolulu, the Mediation Center of the Pacific's ACCESS ADR, and the Hawaii Supreme Court's Appellate Mediation Program. Her training includes advanced coursework at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law.
Ms. McMillen has served as a per diem judge for the State of Hawaii in the Family and District Courts for the Second Circuit, Maui. She has been an adjunct legal faculty member at Hawaii Pacific University and the University of Hawaii Maui College. She co-authored the Ninth Circuit Appellate Practice Guide, available on the Ninth Circuit's website. Her contributions to the legal community include serving as a Lawyer Representative to the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii and as an Appellate Lawyer Representative to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She has been on the Board of Directors of the Hawaii State Bar Association and the Native Hawaiian Bar Association. Ms.
McMillen has been recognized with the Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award from the Hawaii Access to Justice Commission in 2022 and 2023. She is a life fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a founding fellow of the Hawaii Bar Foundation, and a member of the American Bar Association, Hawaii State Bar Association, and Maui County Bar Association.
