About Joshua C.

Joshua C. James combined an undergraduate grounding in strategic communications with a law degree to chart a professional course in Hawaii. His path began at the University of Utah, where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Strategic Communications in 2013. He went on to attend Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law, earning a J.D. in 2016.

Those academic years shaped a practical approach to legal work. At Utah he learned to craft messages and analyze audiences. At Mercer he learned how to translate argument and evidence into persuasive advocacy. The combination gave him a toolkit useful in client counseling, written advocacy, and courtroom settings.

After law school, James moved into practice. In 2017 he worked as a junior associate at Cain and Herren, ALC. That role placed him on cases that required both research and client contact. It also gave him experience inside a small firm setting, handling discrete matters and working directly with senior attorneys.

He became active in the local legal community after relocating to Hawaii. James joined the Maui Bar Association in 2017 and remains a member. Participation in the association has kept him connected to colleagues across the islands and aware of practice developments specific to Hawaii’s courts and clients.

Today he practices through Josh James Lawyer at Law, LLLC. The office handles a range of legal matters for individuals and small businesses. His background in communications often shapes how he frames issues for clients and opposing counsel. He aims for clear explanations and practical next steps when advising people who are new to the legal process.

Colleagues describe him as someone who favors direct answers and steady work rather than theatrical claims. That temperament has guided the way he manages client relationships and case preparation. He is comfortable drafting pleadings, preparing motions, and representing clients at hearings when necessary.

Outside the office he keeps informal ties to the Maui legal scene through the bar association and local contacts. That network informs his understanding of procedural expectations and of how matters tend to move through island courts. It also provides referral pathways when cases require specialized experience beyond what his firm handles.

He is licensed to practice in Hawaii and maintains an active presence in the state’s legal community. He concentrates his practice on legal matters arising in Hawaii.
