About Genghis X.
Genghis X. Shakhan brings an unusual mix of classroom experience, military service, and recent legal training to his work. He earned his J.D. from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School in 2019. Before law school he completed three degrees at Ohio State University: a B.A. in English in 1997, an M.A. in English in 1999, and an M.Ed. in Secondary Education and Teaching in 2001.
Shakhan spent much of his early career in education. He taught high school English in Columbus beginning in 2001 and later served as an assistant principal in Clayton County. He worked as an instructional specialist and taught at charter schools, roles that kept him close to classroom practice and school administration. Those years shaped his approach to client interaction: clear explanations, careful preparation and an eye for detail.
Alongside his education work he served in the United States Marine Forces Reserve as an infantry team leader. That experience is a distinct thread in his résumé, one he cites when discussing leadership and crisis management. He transitioned into the legal field through a series of internships during and after law school. Placements included the Davis Bozeman Law Office in 2016, Fulton County State Court and the Saedi Law Group in 2018, and the Law Offices of Alyssa Maloof Whatley LLC in 2019.
In 2020 he became a founding partner of The Shakhan & Wilkerson Family Law Office. The move put him in private practice in Georgia, where he continues to take cases and build a practice. His work there involves the day-to-day tasks of running a small law firm as well as representing clients in family law matters.
Shakhan holds memberships in the American Bar Association and the Georgia Bar Association. He is also active in several fraternal organizations, including Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and Prince Hall Masonry. These memberships reflect ties to professional networks and community groups beyond the courtroom.
His legal education is recent, but his background combines classroom teaching, school administration and military leadership. That mix informs how he prepares for hearings, conducts client meetings and manages firm operations. He now practices family law at The Shakhan & Wilkerson Family Law Office in Georgia, handling divorce, child custody and related matters.
