About F. Inge
F. Inge Johnstone earned her Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Alabama in 1990 and returned to the same campus to take her law degree, receiving a J.D. in 1995. She entered the Alabama legal community at a time of change in the state's courts and legal landscape. Her education at Tuscaloosa provided a foundation in both the theory and practice of law.
She began her post-law-school career in private practice. In 2000 she joined Balch & Bingham LLP as an associate, where she spent the early years building courtroom and client experience. In 2006 she moved to The Lamb Firm, LLC and continued work as an associate, contributing to the firm's litigation matters and gaining further exposure to contested cases.
In 2008 Johnstone struck out on her own and opened The Law Offices of F. Inge Johnstone. Running a solo practice gave her full responsibility for case management, client counseling, and courtroom preparation. That experience led in 2014 to the formation of Johnstone Carroll LLC, where she is listed as owner. The shift from associate to owner marked a new phase in her career: she handled the administrative side of a firm as well as the legal work.
Johnstone holds membership in several bar and advocacy organizations. She is a current member of the Alabama State Bar and participates in the Birmingham Bar Association. She also belongs to the American Association for Justice and the Alabama Association for Justice. Those memberships reflect ongoing engagement with the professional and trial advocacy communities in Alabama and beyond.
Her career path shows steady movement from large firm associate roles to independent practice and firm leadership. That arc brought responsibilities beyond litigation—managing a practice, supervising staff, and shaping case strategy. Colleagues describe her approach as practical and case-centered; clients have relied on her consistency in handling procedural and evidentiary matters.
She is authorized to practice in Alabama and maintains active ties to local bar organizations. Courtroom appearances, motion practice, and settlement negotiations have formed a through-line across her work since the early 2000s. As of 2026 she is owner of Johnstone Carroll LLC and her practice centers on civil litigation and trial work in Alabama.
