About Ernest
Ernest Cory earned his B.S. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and went on to receive his J.D. from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. Those two institutions shaped his early legal thinking. They also anchored a career that combines courtroom work with bar and community involvement.
He is admitted to practice in Indiana, Oklahoma, Florida, Rhode Island, Alabama and Tennessee, and he holds admission to the U.S. Supreme Court. He serves as the principal lawyer and managing shareholder at Cory Watson, P.C. In that role he handles litigation and oversees the firm's operations and case strategy. He appears in state and federal courts and manages teams of lawyers on complex matters.
Cory maintains an active presence in professional organizations. He is a current member of the American Association for Justice and participates in its Aviation Section and Product Liability Section. He is a charter member of the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation and belongs to its Pioneers of Justice Society. Locally, he holds membership in the Birmingham Bar Association and is a Life Fellow of the Birmingham Bar Foundation. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Birmingham Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program and participates on its Development Committee. Nationally, he is a member of the American Law Society, and he contributes to legal education through a seat on the Cumberland School of Law Advisory Board.
Those affiliations reflect the types of matters that occupy much of his docket. His work includes product liability and aviation-related cases, and he regularly handles civil litigation that raises technical and regulatory issues. Admission to the U.S. Supreme Court signals experience with appellate procedure, and his practice involves both trial-level and appellate work when cases require it.
Clients and colleagues see him as an experienced courtroom lawyer who combines practical case management with organizational leadership inside his firm. He remains engaged in bar programs that expand access to legal services and in law school outreach aimed at training future trial lawyers. He currently practices at Cory Watson, P.C., where his work includes aviation and product liability matters and other complex civil litigation.
