About Eric
Eric Bernstein earned his undergraduate degree in English from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa in 1999 and received his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 2006. He moved from the study of literature to courtroom practice, carrying a careful attention to language into legal briefs and trial preparation. The early academic path laid a foundation that he would use in criminal courtrooms across two states.
He began his legal career in public defense. In 2006 he served as an Associate Public Defender in Dade County. That period gave him sustained experience handling client-facing work and frequent appearances in court. The public defender’s office exposed him to a steady stream of cases and the practical demands of trial and pretrial advocacy.
Bernstein entered private practice after a stretch in public service. By 2013 he was listed as an attorney with George C. Creal, Jr., P.C., a firm known for trial work. His practice spans Florida and Georgia, the two jurisdictions where he is licensed. He also pursued specialized training relevant to impaired driving cases, completing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Standard Field Sobriety Evaluation program. That training informs his handling of DUI-related matters and evidence involving roadside testing.
He maintains professional ties to organizations that center on criminal defense. Since 2014 he has been a member of the National College of DUI Defense. He joined the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 2013 and remained active there. Earlier in his career he belonged to the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers from 2007 until 2012. These memberships have connected him to colleagues across trial practice and DUI defense.
Colleagues and clients see him as a courtroom lawyer who draws on experience in public defense and private trial practice. He has worked across the differing procedural landscapes of Florida and Georgia, where state rules and local practice vary. His work involves case preparation, motion practice, and trial advocacy. He currently practices at George C. Creal, Jr., P.C., handling criminal defense and DUI-related matters in Florida and Georgia.
