About Emily L.R.
Emily L.R. Wilson earned a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and later completed her J.D. at the City University of New York, Queens College. Those years set her on a path from the Midwest to public service and private practice. She has remained based in Wisconsin while building a practice that blends courtroom work with dispute resolution.
She joined the State Bar of Wisconsin in 2012 and has been involved in the Family Law Section. Around the same time she became active in local bar activities. She has been a member of the Dane County Bar Association since 2013 and later took part in its Delivery of Legal Services Committee beginning in 2016.
Wilson opened her own practice in 2013 as E. Wilson Law, LLC and served as owner and principal. In 2015 she worked at Kowalski Family Law, LLC as a lawyer, gaining additional experience in family court matters. In 2021 she became an owner and partner at Kowalski, Wilson & Vang, LLC, where she continues to work today.
Public service and volunteer work are part of her record. In 2016 she volunteered with the Sunshine Legal Clinic, providing limited-scope assistance to clients who otherwise might lack access to legal help. She volunteered at the Family Law Assistance Center in 2017. A year later she joined the Dane County Bar Case Mediation Program as a lawyer mediator, handling mediated sessions for family disputes and related matters.
Her practice emphasizes family law and alternative dispute resolution. She handles separation and divorce matters, custody and placement disputes, child and spousal support issues, and settlement negotiations. As a mediator she works to move parties toward workable agreements without prolonged litigation, while also representing clients in court when necessary.
Colleagues describe her as pragmatic in approach and attentive to procedural detail. She combines courtroom experience with mediation skills to offer multiple pathways through family disputes. She currently practices as an owner and partner at Kowalski, Wilson & Vang, LLC, where her work continues to center on family law and mediation.
