About Elroy
Elroy Sequeira built his legal foundation at two very different schools. He earned a B.A. in political science from The George Washington University in 2010, then completed his J.D. at William Mitchell College of Law in 2013. Those years shaped both his interest in public service and his early approach to courtroom work.
He moved into practical work while still in law school. In 2011 he worked as a law clerk at Osterbauer Law Office and volunteered at the Hennepin County District Court Self Help Center. A 2012 legal internship at Thomson Reuters followed. In 2013 he served as an extern in the Hennepin County Public Defender’s Juvenile Division, then took a position as an assistant public defender for Hennepin County that same year.
Those public defender years put him in front of judges and juries. He handled a steady docket of cases. The role gave him courtroom time and experience in criminal procedure, client counseling and trial preparation. Early internships and clerkships had already exposed him to civil practice and legal research, so his training covered both the trial and the analytical sides of the law.
In 2019 he joined Cohen & Winters, PLLC as a partner. He practices in both New Hampshire and Minnesota and is also admitted to the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire. He holds memberships in the New Hampshire Bar Association, the New Hampshire Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the New Hampshire Association for Justice. Those affiliations reflect the mix of matters that occupy his calendar and the professional networks he maintains.
Colleagues describe his courtroom style as direct and unadorned. He takes routine tasks like discovery and motion practice seriously, and he reserves his arguments for moments that matter. Outside the courtroom he has handled case strategy, client intake and appellate preparation. His background in public defense continues to influence how he approaches client interviews and trial preparation.
He is based at Cohen & Winters, PLLC and practices in state and federal courts in New Hampshire and Minnesota. He handles criminal defense and civil matters and represents clients in both trial and pretrial proceedings.
