About Elissa Hutson
Elissa Hutson Green earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 1980 and completed her legal training at Cumberland School of Law, Samford University, receiving her J.D. in 1988. Those years set a clear path into Alabama’s legal community.
She began her legal career as a law clerk for the Madison County Circuit Court in 1988. The following year she opened a solo practice under the name Elissa H. Green. Over decades in private practice she has maintained a local presence in Madison County and the surrounding area.
Early in her career she took on leadership roles among her peers. She served as president of a Young Lawyers Association in 1995. Two years later she led the Madison County Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association as its president in 1997. Those positions placed her in frequent contact with judges, prosecutors and fellow defense attorneys across the county.
Her service has included a brief stint on the bench. In 2003 she acted as a substitute judge in Huntsville Municipal Court. That role gave her firsthand experience handling courtroom procedure from the bench and added a different perspective to her work as a trial attorney.
Green has remained active in pro bono and volunteer efforts in Madison County. Since 2008 she has been involved with the Madison County Volunteer Lawyers Program, and she has associations with the Madison County Family Law Section and Madison County Criminal Law Section beginning in 2013. She is also listed as a member of ACDLA since 1995 and has received recognition noted as MCVLP for her volunteer contributions.
Her practice has covered matters reflected in those local affiliations, including criminal defense and family law. She operates under her own name, Elissa H. Green, and practices in Alabama. She currently maintains a solo practice handling criminal defense and family law matters in the Madison County area.
