About Sarah S.
Sarah S. Shepard grew up studying two different ways of looking at people: psychology and history. She earned a B.A. from the University of Miami in 2009, then moved to Alabama for law school. She received her J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2012 and is admitted to practice in Alabama.
Her early legal years combined public service and courtroom work. As a law clerk in 2012 for the Hon. James P. Smith of the 23rd Judicial Circuit she managed research and draft opinions, observing how judges resolve disputes and structure orders. That same year she spent time as a pro bono staff lawyer with Legal Services Alabama, representing low-income clients on civil matters. She had earlier interned at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in 2011, where she assisted on intake and investigations.
She moved into in-house practice in 2014 when she joined LG Electronics North America as legal counsel. There she handled legal issues for a large corporate operation and saw firsthand how business pressures shape legal strategy. In 2020 she returned to private practice and took a role at Sparkman, Shepard & Shepard, LLC. Her path has given her experience on both sides of the courthouse door: public-interest representation, judicial procedure and corporate legal work.
Colleagues and clients encounter a lawyer who balances careful legal research with practical problem solving. The clerkship years sharpened her drafting and procedural skills. The pro bono work developed client advocacy, often under tight resource constraints. Time as in-house counsel introduced contract and compliance work in a corporate setting. She applies those different perspectives when preparing filings, negotiating resolutions and advising clients about process and risk.
She maintains a membership in the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association and stays active in local bar activities. Since joining Sparkman, Shepard & Shepard, LLC in 2020 she has handled a range of matters in state forums. She practices in Alabama and now focuses her work on representing clients in state-court matters and counseling them on related legal concerns.
