About Elika O.
Elika O. Stimpson took a practical route through the law school years and into courtroom work. She earned her J.D. from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law in 2013. The program placed her in the middle of a small-state legal environment where judges, prosecutors and defense lawyers meet often. That early exposure framed the way she approaches cases later in her career.
Her first post-law-school role was as a judicial law clerk for the Hawaii State Judiciary in 2013. The clerkship offered daily work on opinions, motion practice and the procedural mechanics that shape trial outcomes. Colleagues from that period say the assignment taught her to read cases from the bench’s perspective and to anticipate the kinds of questions judges are likely to ask.
In 2014 she joined the Office of the Public Defender for the State of Hawaii as a deputy public defender. There she represented people charged with a range of state offenses. The position demanded quick preparation for hearings and trials, frequent client contact, and regular appearances in both district and circuit courts. That time in public defense sharpened her familiarity with trial calendars, plea negotiations and the realities facing people accused of crimes in Hawaii’s islands.
Stimpson is admitted to practice in both Hawaii and Florida. After several years in public service she transitioned to private practice and established Elika O. Stimpson, P.A. Her practice handles litigation matters that draw on courtroom experience. She draws on the procedural insight from her clerkship and the trial experience from her public defender work when advising clients and preparing cases for court.
Those who have worked with her describe a practical approach to casework. She breaks complex procedural issues into manageable parts and makes court deadlines a priority. She appears in state courts and manages litigation tasks that range from initial motions through trial preparation. She now operates a private practice under the name Elika O. Stimpson, P.A., where she concentrates on criminal defense and courtroom representation.
