About Edmund L. Harvey

Edmund L. Harvey Jr. built a legal foundation at Dartmouth College and the University of Pennsylvania before establishing a long career in Pennsylvania probate and trust law. He took the undergraduate liberal arts route, then studied law at Penn. Those two institutions shaped his approach to complex fiduciary work and legal writing.

Harvey’s early professional years are characterized by a steady climb through practice centered on estates, trusts and probate administration. Over time he became a regular presence in Philadelphia legal circles. His peers elected him chair of the Probate and Trust Law Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association in 2001, a role he has retained while guiding section programs, continuing legal education and committee work aimed at practitioners and judges.

Colleagues point to his long-standing membership in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, where he has been a Fellow since 1999. That fellowship signals sustained recognition among estate and trust lawyers nationwide. He has contributed to the profession through section leadership, panel discussions and mentoring younger attorneys who handle fiduciary matters.

In practice Harvey is known for handling the mechanics of estate administration and trust oversight. He works on drafting testamentary and trust instruments, resolving disputes that arise after a death, and advising personal representatives and trustees on their duties. He often appears before probate courts to address estate accountings and contested filings. The work requires attention to procedural detail as much as to tax and substantive fiduciary law; he has navigated both aspects across a range of client situations.

He has also taken an active part in the local bar beyond his section duties. For two decades he has shaped programs that bring bench and bar together on probate practice topics. Those roles have made him a familiar figure at continuing education events in the Philadelphia area and across Pennsylvania.

Clients and colleagues describe him as methodical in case preparation and straightforward in explaining options. He tends to favor practical solutions that resolve estate matters efficiently, rather than prolonged litigation. That approach has informed his caseload and the types of matters he accepts.

As of 2026 he continues to practice in Pennsylvania, concentrating on estate planning, trust administration and probate litigation and counsel for fiduciaries and beneficiaries.
