About Drake
Drake Blackmon entered law school after completing undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He earned his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2001, following a Bachelor of Science degree in 1997. Those years in Alabama framed his early legal education and prepared him for work at both the state and federal levels.
He practices as a trial lawyer at Poole Huffman, LLC. His career has centered on courtroom work. He appears in state courts across Georgia and Alabama and in federal court in the Northern Districts of both states. Membership in the Alabama State Bar and the State Bar of Georgia reflects that dual-state practice.
Courtroom experience makes up a substantial part of his record. As a trial lawyer he handles pretrial preparation, motions practice, and jury trials. He has handled matters in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, in addition to state trial courts. That mix keeps him regularly engaged in litigation strategy and advocacy.
Colleagues and opposing counsel see him most often in contested proceedings. He prepares witness testimony, argues evidentiary issues, and conducts direct and cross-examinations. The work demands attention to procedure and an ability to respond to developments at trial. Those are routine elements of his day-to-day practice.
Outside the courtroom he maintains active memberships in both the Alabama State Bar and the State Bar of Georgia. Those affiliations support ongoing professional education and ethical practice standards. They also enable him to accept matters that span state lines and involve federal court jurisdiction.
Clients and other lawyers consult him for litigation matters that require representation in state or federal court in Georgia and Alabama. He has continued to base his trial practice at Poole Huffman, LLC, where he handles a range of contested matters. He currently practices litigation in Georgia and Alabama and in the Northern Districts of those states' federal courts.
