About Douglas
Douglas Mahoney entered law school after an undergraduate degree in history from the College of the Holy Cross, where he graduated in 1989. He earned his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1992. Those early academic years set the stage for a practice centered on courtroom work and the procedural demands of trial litigation.
He began practicing in 1992 at Tremont Sheldon Robinson Mahoney P.C., where his work was concentrated on trial cases in state and federal courts. Over time he handled a steady docket of contested matters, moving cases through discovery, motion practice and trial. In 2021 he continued his trial practice at Robinson Mahoney PLLC, carrying forward litigation responsibilities that had defined his career.
Mahoney holds admission in Connecticut and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut. He is a board-certified Civil Trial Specialist through the National Board of Trial Advocacy, a credential that recognizes specialized trial competence in civil matters. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and an Advocate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, both organizations that center on standards and practice among civil trial lawyers.
Alongside courtroom work, Mahoney has engaged in bar activities and professional leadership. He has served as president of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association and also led the Greater Bridgeport Bar Association. He maintains membership in the State Bar of Connecticut and continues to participate in the professional organizations that track developments in civil procedure and trial practice.
Colleagues and opposing counsel describe Mahoney as methodical at trial. He prepares witnesses and evidence to be presented under pressure. He has moved matters through trial calendars and appeared on appeals in federal circuit court when matters required further review. His courtroom work spans both jury and bench trials and involves evidence-intensive, procedural litigation.
Today Mahoney practices at Robinson Mahoney PLLC, where his caseload remains anchored in civil trial work. He continues to accept litigation matters in Connecticut state and federal courts and handles appeals when cases progress beyond trial. His current practice focuses on civil trial representation in state and federal courts.
