About Doug
Doug Bend trained as a political scientist before turning to the law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from Drake University in 1999, followed by a Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2001. He completed his legal studies at Georgetown University Law Center, receiving his J.D. in 2006. Those successive degrees shaped a practical approach to legal problems and a comfort with both policy and business detail.
After law school, Bend moved into private practice and business-oriented counseling. By 2010 he was serving as legal counsel for entrepreneurs at Bend Law Group, PC. That description has defined his work since then. He provides counsel to founders and small business owners on transactional matters and the everyday legal questions that affect early-stage companies.
Bend is admitted to practice in both California and New York and maintains membership in the State Bar of California. His professional path has kept him close to the intersection of business formation, contract drafting and operational compliance for small enterprises. He works on company formation, negotiated agreements, and the contractual relationships that allow growing ventures to operate.
Colleagues and clients describe Bend as practical and direct. He avoids legalese when possible and emphasizes clear agreements. He tends to approach problems in discrete steps: identify the legal risk, outline the options, and document the outcome so a client can move forward. That method suits entrepreneurs who need usable answers and a path to execution rather than theoretical analysis.
Outside client work, Bend has continued to follow developments in corporate and commercial law that affect startups and small businesses. He has practiced through economic cycles and changing regulatory environments, which has shaped how he advises on contingency planning and contract protection. He remains based at Bend Law Group, PC, where his practice centers on legal counsel for entrepreneurs and small business matters.
